Provenance at generation time

Capture a claim's provenance as you gather it — the source, the exact supporting quote, and the access date — never reconstruct it afterward.

  • Attach the citation and the verbatim supporting quote at the moment the claim is made.
  • Reconstructed-after-the-fact citations are where fabricated and mismatched sources creep in.
  • Record what was searched and where the claim came from, not just the conclusion.
  • Provenance recorded late is provenance guessed; guessed provenance is unverifiable.
  • A claim whose provenance cannot be captured does not belong in the output.
